Week 1 - Self Study

Pictured above is the custom 3D model I created using Blender, a replica of the Broadcast Australia Tower which sits atop Mount Wellington. It mostly consists of a series of cylinders which taper off to thinner ones as the tower goes upwards, with a more gradual curve toward the base and two sharper sections nearer to the top.

Creating the basic geometry of the tower wasn't too hard, and I used several photos for reference. I spent a while trying to get the dimensions of the tower roughly correct, particularly the wide curve at the base. However, I encountered quite a lot of trouble when it came to baking the ambient occlusion onto the tower, as any time I tried to do so, it would just turn pitch black. After many hours of searching forums, I still didn't find a solution to the problem and had tried restarting from scratch. This completely new file worked, but set me back a couple of hours of work.

Above is the Broadcast Australia Tower model I made, along with a barrel model I made by following this Brackeys tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPV2KyIb3jR7NpThqBF78byFOrzPKiLmb.
