Week 2 - Tutorial
This is the scene I created for the week 2 tutorial task - some kind of fever-dream-tourist-hellscape-island which has been trashed by visiting tourists... The scene contains the following elements:
- Ocean (just a blue-coloured plane)
- Island (a yellow-coloured sphere scaled to look like a sandy island)
- Barrels of Comic Sans Rum© (reused from previous task)
- The Broadcast Australia Tower from Mt. Wellington
- Palm Trees (Source: https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-oldschool-lowpoly-animated-vegetation-vo...)
- Soda Cups (Source: https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-design-illustration-browser-model-137349...)
- Picnic Baskets (Source: https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-square-basket-1500562)
- Picnic Tables (Source: https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/table-picnic-3d-model-1347295)
- Boeing 787 (Source: https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/free-boeing-787-8-1-3d-model/858876)
I didn't have any particular theme in mind for my scene when I started making it, I just slowly added a few items one by one. However, the soda cups and barrels gave me the idea for a tropical island littered with various things left behind by tourists. Making the ocean and island were pretty easy (although I really could have made them look nicer, but I wanted to focus on the items inside the scene). Finding nice palm tree models that were also free was surprisingly difficult, a couple of times I downloaded a model but couldn't get the textures to work. Eventually, I settled on a palm tree model then found a picnic table and picnic basket model to finish off the scene. I enjoyed arranging the objects at slight angles to simulate them being partially sunken into the sand or leaning over the beach.
An alternate angle of the scene, showing the various elements placed around the island.
